Water-Activated Paper Tape (Eco)
Water-activated tape (WAT), also called gummed tape or reinforced gummed tape, consists of a kraft paper face with a starch-based adhesive that activates when moistened with water. Once applied and dried, the adhesive creates a permanent, fiber-tearing bond with the box surface — the tape cannot be removed intact, making tampering immediately visible. Reinforced versions include a fiberglass scrim for additional tensile strength.
Water-activated tape is preferred by brands that need a strong, tamper-evident seal and want to avoid plastic. It is accepted in paper recycling streams without removal. It is widely used in e-commerce, luxury retail, and brands with sustainability commitments. Custom versions can be printed with logos or messaging.
